Start your own group

Student groups are student-created, student-led interest groups. See the list of active campus groups to learn what interests are currently being represented and possible partnership opportunities.  To encourage and support the activities of student group, Student Alliance is present to serve as a resource and to help you reach out to all students on campus.



Criteria to start a student group:

  • Student group participation and events are open and free to all CIIS students, staff, and faculty.

  • Proposed student group has conducted research and outreach to ensure student interest and involvement.

  • A proposed student group supports the Student Alliance goal of inclusive and student-centered programming and activities.


Student Leader Responsibilities

  • Attend Student Alliance Meetings  and/or ensure a student group representation.

  • Act as an interface between Student Alliance and the group by sharing news and ideas from Student Alliance with their group and from their group with Student Alliance.

  • Stay informed about Student Alliance policies and funding procedures.

  • Submit the dates of your group meetings and group events to the website coordinator with at least two-week anticipation.



Student Groups of Student Alliance eligible for the following:

  • Each approved and registered student group is allocated $300 per semester.

  • Active Student groups are eligible to apply for an additional $500 maximum in funding to support events/programming per semester dependent on available funding.

  • In the case of special events and/or co-sponsored events with other student groups, student group is eligible to apply for an addition $500 maximum in funding beyond their $800 maximum funding allotment per semester dependent on available funding.

  • Students cannot move or transfer unused semester funds into an old or new semester.

  • All expenses must be approved and are distributed retroactively.


How to apply:

  • Print out and fill in the PDF Application

  • Turn in your proposal application to the Student Alliance coordinator at least two weeks before the next Student Alliance meeting where you will be presenting your proposal.
