OUR MISSION.

Student Alliance is a student-run organization that supports students’ needs by promoting their involvement in all levels of the CIIS community. Its mission is to facilitate communication, sponsor events, and distribute funds to promote the good of the community within CIIS.

Angela has been serving as the Student Alliance Director since May of 2014. Her goals in this position are to facilitate positive and collaborative student initiatives on campus. She is a native of California who has traveled extensively throughout the US, Mexico and South America. Angela is a doctoral candidate in East-West Psychology and brings several years of experience in project management, operations, and strategic planning. Prior she has served CIIS as a team member of the Operations Team, the grant writer and facilitator of the $10,000 Social Innovation Grant from California Campus Compact, and as a Student Affairs student worker.

Andrea Chavez Mendez, is a Master's student in Somatic Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. She moved to San Francisco a year ago from her native home of Mexico City, Mexico. In her studies, she integrates body practices as a way of empowerment to psychotherapy. Her work is influenced by her psychotherapy community service in Mexican communities. In addition, Andrea demonstrates her commitment to health and fitness as professional pole fitness instructor and tri-athlete. As a member of the Student Alliance team, she brings energy and a great attitude to listen and support students.

WHAT WE DO.

Student Alliance administers a budget of $30 per student (contributed through registration fees). These funds benefit students and the CIIS community by underwriting the following programs:

 

  • Support and sponsor student group events and classes

  • Offers funding awards for student participation at educational conferences

  • Sponsors the Social Justice and Community Research Grant.

  • Provides opportunities for student leadership
